Hello, welcome to solsarin. The post is about “who is captain america’s sidekick?“.

Bucky Barnes

James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes Jr. is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Originally introduced as a sidekick to Captain America, the character was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby and first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover-dated March 1941) (which was published by Marvel’s predecessor, Timely Comics).

Barnes’ original costume (or one based on it) and the Bucky nickname has been used by other heroes in the Marvel Universe over the years. The character is brought back from supposed death as the brainwashed assassin cyborg called Winter Soldier (Russian: Зимний Солдат, translit. Zimniy Soldát). The character’s memories and personality are later restored, leading him to become a dark hero in search of redemption.

Captain America

He temporarily assumes the role of “Captain America” when Steve Rogers was presumed to be dead. During the 2011 crossover Fear Itself, Barnes is injected with the Infinity Formula, which increases his natural vitality and physical traits in a way that is similar to (but less powerful than) the super-soldier serum used on Captain America.

Sebastian Stan portrays the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films Captain America: The First Avenger (2011), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Ant-Man (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Black Panther (2018), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), streaming television series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), and the animated series What If…? (2021) as alternate versions.

Powers and abilities

Having trained under Steve Rogers (the original Captain America in World War II) and others in the time leading up to World War II, “Bucky” Barnes is a master of hand-to-hand combat and martial arts, as well as being skilled in the use of military weapons such as firearms and grenades.

He also used throwing knives on occasion and was a gifted advance scout. His time as the covert Soviet agent known as the Winter Soldier helped to further hone his skills, making him the equal to his predecessor in combat skills and an expert assassin and spy. He is also fluent in many languages, including English, Spanish, Portuguese, German, Russian, Latin, and Japanese. He can understand French.

EMP

Winter Soldier’s left arm is a cybernetic prosthetic with superhuman strength and enhanced reaction time. The arm can function when not in contact with Barnes and can discharge an EMP causing electronics to either shut down or become useless.

As a result of gaining the Infinity Formula, Bucky Barnes has enhanced vitality. His general strength, resiliency to injury, speed, stamina, and agility are also a few times greater than a normal human being of his size and physical build. None of his traits operate on superhuman levels (not counting the use of his cyborg arm) and he does not operate at the level of a super-soldier such as Steve Rogers.

As Captain America, he possesses the original, indestructible, vibranium-steel alloy shield used by his predecessor, as well as a Kevlar/Nomex blend shock-absorbing costume. He often carries several conventional weapons such as knives, guns, and grenades.

Who is The Winter Soldier, Captain America’s Sidekick?

A shadowy figure infiltrates a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility. It slips past civilians and office workers, searching for its target. An unlucky agent crosses the figure’s path and gets his neck snapped. The figure peers around a wall and sees two guards with machine guns standing in front of a heavily fortified door.

The figure tosses a flashbang grenade, blinding the guards, while rushing forward and putting a knife through the first guard’s throat. The second guard shoots but his bullets are blocked by the figure’s arm. The sleeve shreds, revealing a gleaming metal arm with a red star. The arm drives forward impossibly fast and slams the guard’s head through the metal wall. The Winter Soldier enters the room and assassinates its sole occupant, his target for this mission.

The Winter Soldier is one of Marvel’s first sidekicks. He fought in WWII, was turned into a cyborg, and became Captain America. So who is he? Where did he come from? Is he friend or foe? I’d tell you, but then I’ll have to kill you. Meh, what the hell. Let’s find out.

Young Ally: The Winter Soldier’s Backstory

Before there was a Winter Soldier, there was Bucky Barnes, Captain America’s sidekick. Bucky debuted in Captain America Comics #1 in 1941. He was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby. He was inspired by Batman’s sidekick Robin and named after one of Simon’s friends.

James “Bucky” Barnes was an army brat who met a soldier named Steve Rogers during WWII. Bucky accidentally walked into Steve’s tent one day and saw him putting on the Captain America uniform. Cap eventually gave in to Bucky’s requests to fight together and trained his buddy.

KIA

Bucky was used as propaganda to show America’s youth that they could be heroes too. But behind the scenes, Bucky was used to assassinate people for the government–something that Captain America would never agree to do.

Captain America and Bucky seemingly met their ends when spies sabotaged an experimental plane they were testing. Cap fought the spies while Bucky tried defusing the bomb. It exploded, knocking Bucky and Cap off the plane. Cap was frozen alive and Bucky was declared KIA.

The Red Room: The Winter Soldier’s History

Bucky was one of the only superheroes who stayed dead. Fans used to say that the only comic characters to stay dead were Bucky, Jason Todd (the second Robin), and Uncle Ben. Bucky was finally resurrected in 2005, 41 years after writers killed him off

A Soviet submarine crew found Bucky drifting in the ocean. He was missing an arm and suffering from amnesia. They brought Bucky to Russia, where he was placed in a program called The Red Room. He was brainwashed to be a weapon and a cybernetic arm was grafted to his stump. The Red Room sent Bucky, code-named Winter Soldier, on the same types of assassination missions that the Americans had.

The Red Room cryogenically froze the Winter Soldier between missions to keep him at his physical prime. He was only revived to train other spies, most notably Black Widow, or to kill someone.

HYDRA

Captain America discovered The Winter Soldier when he assassinated the Red Skull and a hero called Nomad. Cap learned his backstory over a series of skirmishes after seeing the Soldier unmasked. He managed to break the Soviet brainwashing and help Bucky regain his memories.

Bucky kept the Winter Soldier identity and resumed his black ops career. When Steve was assassinated, Bucky took up the shield and mantle of Captain America. Most recently, Bucky helped the superhero community fight a HYDRA regime led by a traitorous Captain America. It’s a long, convoluted, and really stupid story that none of us has time for.

Captain America’s Forgotten Sidekick Just Jumped Back In Action

When John Walker became Captain America, he brought in an old friend to be his new Bucky, and that man just returned in U.S. Agent’s new series.
