Hello and welcome to solsarin. This post is about “chicken drumstick recipes slow cooker“.

Chicken

The chicken (Gallus domesticus) is a domesticated junglefowl species, with attributes of wild species such as the grey and the Ceylon junglefowl[1] that are originally from Southeastern Asia. Rooster or cock is a term for an adult male bird, and a younger male may be called a cockerel. A male that has been castrated is a capon. An adult female bird is called a hen and a sexually immature female is called a pullet.

Originally raised for cockfighting or for special ceremonies, chickens were not kept for food until the Hellenistic period (4th–2nd centuries BC).[2][3] Humans now keep chickens primarily as a source of food (consuming both their meat and eggs) and as pets

What Makes This Recipe So Good? The Sauce!

So let’s talk about the sauce. Do you sometimes feel intimidated by sauce-making and unsure how to go about it? Don’t be! Making a sauce can be really complex if you want it to be, but it can also be simple! Some of my favorite sauces are nothing more than a few tasty ingredients mixed together in proportions that work.

For the Sauce

  • Honey:The sweetness in the sauce is from ¼ cup of your favorite honey.
  • Soy Sauce:You’ll also need ¼ cup of soy sauce; I use low-sodium soy sauce. If you’d like, you can substitute tamari or coconut aminos.
  • Balsamic Vinegar:This richly-flavored condiment adds an amazingly savory flavor to the sauce.
  • Brown Sugar:Just a couple of tablespoons.
  • Fresh Garlic:Mince or press six cloves of garlic. You can substitute 1 ½ teaspoons of garlic powder, if necessary.
  • Sriracha:I love sriracha! It has such an intense, umami flavor, full of heat and deliciousness. 1 tablespoon gives the sauce a nice kick.
  • Ground Ginger:Just a teaspoon picks the sauce up and gives it a lovely fresh zing.

Tips for the Best Chicken Drumsticks

But wait, there’s more! Yes, this recipe is great on its own, but I’ve also got a handful of nifty tips to help you make the most of your delicious ingredients. Read on, and enjoy

  • Use a Liner:Crock pot liners are so helpful, especially when you’re making a glazed recipe like this one. It’ll save you time and hassle, making clean-up super easy.
  • Broil ‘Em Up:Want to get a little crispy finish on your drumsticks? No problem! Just line a baking sheet with parchment paper and throw your drumsticks under a hot broiler for a minute or two. This will take them from glazed, to glazed AND crispy!
  • Watch the Time:Most people cook chicken in the crock pot until it’s fall-off-the-bone tender. I love it that way too, but you can also turn the crockpot off sooner, for less meltingly tender chicken. Just make sure it is fully cooked at 165°F – use an Instant Read Meat Thermometer to check

Can I cook drumsticks in the crockpot?

We love chicken drumsticks. They are inexpensive and kid friendly. Growing up we would always fry drumsticks but I wanted to try making them in the crockpot for a better version of drumsticks.

I was amazed how well they turned out cooking them in the crockpot. They were packed with flavor and so tender. It is such a time saver making these in your crockpot.

My family loved it so much they asked me to always make chicken drumsticks this way! Slow Cooking has become my favorite of making these drumsticks.

Can you put frozen drumsticks in a crockpot?

Yes, you can. Simply, follow the same instructions but increase the cooking time for the frozen chicken. If you chicken is frozen, the spices might not stick as well.

Frozen chicken legs in crock pot are just as easy and delicious. If you forget to take something out of the freezer, just toss frozen drumsticks in crockpot for a super easy and tasty meal

How to make Slow Cooker Drumsticks?

  • In a small bowl combine the paprika, cumin, and garlic salt. Stir to combine.
  • Sprinkle over the drum sticks and rub all over chicken skin
  • Place chicken drumsticks in slow cooker.
  • Pour 1 cup of barbeque sauce over the chicken drumsticks.
  • Cover and cook on low 4-6 hours until the chicken is tender. (You can cook on high if you prefer but reduce the hours on high.)
  • When finished place the chicken on a baking sheet lined with foil and cooking spray.
  • Brush half of the BBQ sauce on the drum sticks. Broil for 1-5 minutes until it begins to brown.
  • Remove from oven, flip the drumsticks, and brush with the remaining BBQ sauce.
  • Broil another 1-5 minutes until brown.

RECIPE NOTES

Make sure the potatoes are cut into even-sized pieces so that they cook evenly. They should be about the size of a walnut.

NOTES ON CROCK POT CHICKEN DRUMSTICKS

  • We make chicken legs in the crock pot a LOT. I love how flavorful and versatile they can be. I have been known to just throw them in with a little Lawry’s Seasoned Salt and call it a day. Sometimes we go a step further to make them Crock Pot BBQ Chicken Legs. We have  also been known to make this One Pot Chicken Dinner with chicken drumsticks instead of the boneless thighs in the original recipe.
  • This recipe is from America Test Kitchen’s Slow Cooker Revolution.
  • Check out all our favorite recommendations for cookbooks, slow cookers and low carb essentials in our Amazon Influencer Shop.
  • As with any of our recipes, carb counts, calorie counts and nutritional information varies greatly depending on which products you choose to use when cooking this dish.
  • All slow cookers cook differently, so cooking times are always a basic guideline and shouldalways be tested first in your own slow cooker and time adjusted as needed.

WHAT DO I SERVE WITH CROCKPOT CHICKEN LEGS?

Pair with pasta, rice, or a roasted vegetable for a complete meal. Spicy Mushroom Rice is definitely on my list to serve the next time I make this recipe. Having a variety of dipping sauces for your chicken legs is a great way to please every taste bud. Here are a few great options:

  • Teriyaki sauce
  • Blue cheese
  • Buffalo sauce
  • BBQ
  • Ranch dressing
  • Tender, juicy BBQ chicken that takes like it just came off the grill!
  • I love a good barbecue as much as the next person, but I’m definitely not one to grill in the rain or snow. Or cold weather. Or major wind.
  • Basically, if it’s not a beautiful day outside, my motivation to get out the grill is limited. This recipe is perfect for when you want that smoky tasteand the weather just won’t cooperate.

 WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE!

Tender, Fall-off-the-Bone Meat! Slow cooking meat makes it incredibly juicy and tender.

Minimal Prep! Put this in before work, and have dinner on the table 5 minutes after you get home!

Easy Cleanup! All you’ll have to wash is your crockpot and a baking sheet

Notes

  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days or frozen in a freezer bag for 3 months.
  • I recommend keeping the skin on because it helps the drumsticks retain moisture.

What goes with slow cooked bbq chicken drumsticks?

I like whipping up a bed of rice on the stove or Instant Pot and serving it under crock pot chicken drumsticks. On the side I’ll add a seasonal salad recipe, a heaping pile of caramelized red onions to take with each bite, or smoked corn on the cob.
