Hello and welcome to solsarin. This post is about “crispy chicken wings in air fryer”.

Chicken

The chicken (Gallus domesticus) is a domesticated junglefowl species, with attributes of wild species such as the grey and the Ceylon junglefowl[1] that are originally from Southeastern Asia. Rooster or cock is a term for an adult male bird, and a younger male may be called a cockerel. A male that has been castrated is a capon. An adult female bird is called a hen and a sexually immature female is called a pullet.

Originally raised for cockfighting or for special ceremonies, chickens were not kept for food until the Hellenistic period (4th–2nd centuries BC).[2][3] Humans now keep chickens primarily as a source of food (consuming both their meat and eggs) and as pets.

These crispy Air Fryer Chicken Wings are the end all be all of chicken wings. Made with the perfect blend of seasonings and a homemade buffalo sauce that will make everyone crave second and third helpings!

INGREDIENTS

12 whole wings – once you’ve cut these up you’ll have 24 wings

favorite sauce – I love to make my own homemade sauce with a little cayenne pepper, butter, and hot sauce

garlic powder – adds a little additional flavor to the wings

olive oil – I always coat the wings in a little oil before adding any additional seasonings.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS AIR FRYER WINGS RECIPE

  • Juicy, flavorful, and tender chicken
  • Super crispy skin
  • Just 2 simple ingredients (plus salt and pepper)
  • No oil required
  • Only 5 minutes to prep
  • Packed with tips for the best air fryer chicken wings ever – see below!

HOW LONG TO COOK WINGS IN AN AIR FRYER?

Air fry chicken wings for 15 minutes at 250 degrees F first, then flip and air fry for 15-20 more minutes at 430 degrees F. The total time is 30-35 minutes.

HOW LONG TO COOK FROZEN CHICKEN WINGS IN AN AIR FRYER?

Air fry frozen chicken wings for 25 minutes at 250 degrees F (that’s 10 minutes longer than thawed ones), then flip, increase heat, and proceed with the same cooking time (15-20 more minutes), until crispy and cooked through.

If you prefer to thaw the chicken wings first (for more even cooking), you can do so in a few ways:

  • Water: Put the wings in a zip top bag (not straight into the water!), then place the bag into a bowl. Fill the bowl with cold water and use something heavy to submerge the wings in the water.
  • Microwave: The defrost setting on your microwave is by far the fastest way to thaw chicken wings, but can lead to pre-cooked spots. Select the weight of wings you have, and rotate frequently if your microwave doesn’t have a turntable. (Cook immediately with this method.)
  • Fridge: Thaw frozen chicken wings overnight in the refrigerator.

How to Make Perfect Air Fryer Chicken Wings

In total, 30 minutes is how long you cook chicken wings in the air fryer.

  • If your wings are especially large or small, you may need to adjust the time by a few minutes in either direction.
  • Once the wings are air fried, you can toss them in any sauce of your choosing (such as the slightly sweet umami sauce with these Korean Air Fryer Chicken Wings).
  • But as indicated by the cult following of this Slow Cooker Healthy Buffalo Chickenand the Buffalo Chicken Burgers in my cookbook, the penultimate fan favorite is Buffalo sauce.

TIP!

Buffalo sauce is hot sauce that has been doctored up with melted butter and garlic. These simple ingredients create wing magic.

STORAGE TIPS

For max flavor, toss the reheated wings in a fresh batch of Buffalo sauce.

TIPS FOR MAKING THIS RECIPE

  • If you love extra spicy wings, add some cayenne pepper to the wings before you cook them!
  • If you have an oven-style air fryer with multiple racks I’d encourage you not to make multiple racks of chicken wings at the same time if the ultimate goal is to get crispy chicken wings. Fat from the chicken slowly drips off the top rack onto the others and definitely impacts the overall crispiness.
  • I highly recommend investing in a meat thermometer. You can get a decent cheap one for around $10-$15 but it takes all the guess work out of whether meat is cooked or not. You’ll want to check the internal temperature of the wings are 74C / 165F before serving. You only need to test the biggest one – and you insert the thermometer in the meatiest part of the wing, away from the bone.
  • Feel free to double or triple the recipe.

Love chicken wings? You have to try our 3-ingredient baked chicken wings while you’re at it.

Air fryer chicken wings are so super crispy, you’ll find yourself doing a double-take. But no matter how hard you look, you won’t find a deep fryer in sight. If you find yourself craving wings more often than you’d like to admit, this recipe can be whipped up in under 30 minutes and be incorporated into any wholesome diet.

For those who can’t get enough fried foods, the air fryer has been a huge savior. By using hot, circulating air, it crisps up these wings, while keeping them melt in your mouth juicy on the inside. This is all achieved with just a couple of coats of cooking spray. Amazing.

Whether you’re hosting a large gathering or having a few friends over to watch a football game, these wings are about to become your new go-to.

What is the Best Air Fryer?

There are 2 very different styles of air fryers. The first type is a toaster oven style with a little oven door like this Cuisinart model that we have, this Farberware model that my sister has, or this fancy one by Breville.

The second type is a slide-in drawer/basket type like the Phillips air fryer, Gourmia or Nuwave brands. We prefer the Cuisinart toaster oven style air fryer because it can accommodate more food and serves a variety of functions. It replaced our old toaster oven because it air fries, bakes, broils and toasts.

Can I Bake these in a traditional oven?

It takes significantly longer to achieve crispy chicken wings in the oven. To bake these chicken wings in a conventional oven, preheat oven to 400˚F and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour, or until crispy, flipping the wings after 30 minutes.

These Air Fryer Chicken Wings have crisp salty skin with a hint of garlic and lemon pepper in every bite. These are seasoned to perfection and cook so fast with no marinating required!

We love crispy baked chicken like my Mom’s famous Chicken Drumsticks these Garlic Dijon Baked Chicken Legs or baked Honey Glazed Chicken but the air fryer is our new best friend for chicken because it’s so much faster and memorably crispy!
