Hello. Welcome to solsarin. This post is about “evanescence band members”.

Evanescence

Evanescence is an American rock band founded in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1995 by singer, pianist, and keyboardist Amy Lee and guitarist Ben Moody. After recording independent albums, the band released their first full-length album, Fallen, on Wind-up Records in 2003. On the strength of hit singles “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal”, Fallen sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and helped the band win two Grammy Awards out of six nominations. A year later, Evanescence released their first live album, Anywhere but Home, which sold more than one million copies worldwide. In 2006, the band released their second studio album, The Open Door, which sold more than five million copies.

The band reconvened in June 2009 with a new lineup; their next studio album, Evanescence, was released in 2011. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart with 127,000 copies in sales. The album also debuted at number one on four other different Billboard charts; the Rck Albums, Digital Albums, Alternative Albums, and the Hard Rock Albums charts. The band spent 2012 on tour in promotion of their latest album with other bands including The Pretty Reckless and Fair to Midland. Troy McLawhorn also became a full-time band member during this time. Following the end of the album’s tour cycle in 2012, the band entered another hiatus.

2017

In 2015, Evanescence emerged from hiatus and announced they would resume touring; however, they stated that new Evanescence material was not being produced, as Lee was focusing on a solo project instead. In addition, Balsamo left the band and was replaced by Jen Majura. In March 2017, Lee stated Evanescence was working on a fourth album for release later in 2017; Synthesis was released worldwide on November 10, 2017, and marked a stylistic change in the band’s sound. On March 26, 2021, the band released their fifth studio album, The Bitter Truth.

The lineup of the group changed several times over the course of the first two studio albums productions and promotions: David Hodges left in 2002, co-founder Moody left in 2003 (mid-tour), followed by guitarist John LeCompt and drummer Rocky Gray in 2007, and Terry Balsamo in 2015. As a result, none of the band’s five studio albums feature the same lineup. The latter two changes led to a hiatus, with temporary band members contributing to tour performances.

History

1995–2001: Formation and early years

Evanescence was founded by singer, pianist and songwriter Amy Lee and former lead guitarist and songwriter Ben Moody. The two met in 1994 at a Christian youth camp in Little Rock, where Moody heard Lee play Meat Loaf’s “I’d Do Anything for Love” on the piano. The band became popular after performing in coffee shops around the Little Rock area. After experimenting with band names, such as Childish Intentions and Stricken, they decided on Evanescence, which means “disappearance” or “fading away” (from the word evanesce, which means “to disappear”).

The band released three EPs. The first is the self-titled Evanescence EP (1998), of which about 100 copies were made and distributed at the band’s early live performances. The second is the Sound Asleep EP, also known as the Whisper EP (1999). There was also a third EP called Mystary EP (2003). For their first full-length demo CD, Origin (2000), about 2,500 copies were produced and sold to concert audiences. Origin and the EPs contain demo versions of some songs on their debut album, Fallen. During a radio interview, Lee and Moody encouraged fans to download the band’s older songs from the Internet, rather than purchase them from online sources such as eBay where the material had been selling for over US$250.

Remember Evanescence? They’re planning a comeback soon!

Frontwoman Amy Lee spoke to SiriusXM’s Grant Random about the band’s forthcoming album and when fans can expect it as well where the group has been for so long.

The new album will be a follow up to the band’s 2011 self-titled record, as their 2017 release, titled Synthesis was a collection of reworking of old material with only two original songs.

The band has previously released four studio albums and two live albums.

In the interview, the singer said: “This is sort of a creation year for us… We’re playing a few festivals and some headlining shows — a little bit, but not too heavy. And in the time in between, getting together and starting the writing process for a new album.”

BUT WHERE HAVE THEY BEEN?

Other than the compilation albums in 2016 and 2017, the members of the band have kept busy with their own solo music. In 2016, Amy Lee wrote and recorded a children’s album titled Dream Too Much inspired by her young child, Jack, according to Rolling Stone.

Other than Amy, the band has a forever changing roster.

HERE’S A CATCH-UP OF TWO OF THE FIRST PEOPLE TO LEAVE:

Ben Moody – who co-founded the band with Amy in 1995 and left Evanescence in October 2003 – has since joined two other groups, The Halo Method and We Are the Fallen with American Idols cast-off Carly Smithson, according to E! Online.

David Hodges joined Evanescence in late 1999 and helped make their debut album, Fallen, with bandmates Amy and Ben. He left the band in 2002 and now writes hit music for artists like Christina Aguilera, Tim McGraw and Carrie Underwood, according to BMI.

THE CURRENT MEMBERS OF THE GROUP ARE:

Amy Lee – lead vocals, keyboards, harp, piano (1995–present)

Troy McLawhorn – lead guitar (2015–present; live member 2007–2011), rhythm guitar (2007-2015)

Jen Majura – rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2015–present)

Evanescence’s songs in 2020

The rock band Evanescence released their new upcoming single called Use My Voice. Evanescence’s new song, Use My Voice features multiple guest appearances from popular singers. Use My Voice featured Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen, Sharon Den Adel, and Lindsey Stirling as guest appearances. Evanescence’s latest song was produced by Nick Raskulinecz. The song Use My Voice is the third single from Evanescence’s upcoming album, The Bitter Truth (BMG). In fact, The Bitter Truth (BMG) will be Evanescence’s first collection of new original music in nine years.

Another new standout is the protest track “Use My Voice,” with Evanescence at perhaps its most political, as the title suggests. As Lee said, “It’s hard to imagine living through this time, being a lyric writer, and not getting a bit more political. Being silent is a big statement in itself, and I didn’t want to make that statement.”

Pollstar

Lee has also been using her voice to promote the act of voting on the band’s socials, pointing to issues with voter suppression, and said, “Everybody needs to be able to be represented, or we are not a free country anymore.”

The music video makes that point as well, in particular championing the representation women are owed — a battle she has often waged in a male-dominated industry. There’s a moment in the video where she holds up a torch, looking like Lady Liberty, as she’s joined by a chorus of sirens, including colleague and friend Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. The two bands are currently on tour right now, offering a strong female-fronted arena show that Pollstar calls a high point in the current touring market — though it’s something Lee didn’t initially think would have been possible back in the early days.

Shirley Manson of Garbage

“I felt like I was fighting for my place, to constantly prove I was worthy of being there … that I was more than just a girl standing in front [on stage], but I was a writer and that I knew how to lead a band,” she said, pointing to inspirations including Shirley Manson of Garbage. “And now I can look back and I don’t feel like I’m fighting anymore. I’ve seen a change in the industry since we began and that makes me excited and inspired, … Women are definitely rocking the scene right now.”
