Hello. Welcome to solsarin. This post is about “frozen diced hash browns in air fryer“.

Air fryer

An air fryer is a small countertop convection oven designed to simulate deep frying without submerging the food in oil.[1][2] A fan circulates hot air[1] at high speed, producing a crisp layer via browning reactions such as the Maillard reaction. Some product reviewers find that regular convection ovens or convection toaster ovens produce better results,[3][4][1] or say that air frying is essentially convection baking under a trendy new name.[5]

It’s OK… I mean I don’t need to include every iteration of air fried potato recipes in the world here! However, I noticed that I get a lot of visitors looking for air fryer hash browns that are diced and frozen. So, here you go!

There don’t tend to be a lot of options in my local stores for frozen diced potatoes. Often, there’s only one brand available. It might be the Great Value brand frozen southern hash browns or their country style potatoes.

Or perhaps you’ve got a bag of Simply Potatoes diced potatoes. (These are a refrigerated product that will require less air fryer time than frozen cubed potatoes.)

Last time I shopped, it was the Ore-Ida Potatoes O’Brien. It’s a mix of frozen potatoes, onions, and bell peppers. If you can only find diced potatoes without other vegetables mixed in, that’s fine too.

Whatever brand you start with, you’ll end up with crispy air fryer potato cubes. So, let’s get to it, shall we?

Benefits

Why make frozen diced potatoes in an air fryer? Here are a few of the benefits of this air fryer vegetable recipe:

  • Fast: This side dish is largely hands off and air fries in under 30 minutes. You can prep your main dish while the potatoes cook.
  • Easy to Clean Up: A big advantage of air frying over using a skillet is that the air fryer is easier to clean. A non-stick air fryer basket or tray typically requires no scrubbing. Unfortunately, potatoes tend to stick to my cast-iron skillet (regardless of it being well-seasoned).
  • Nutritious: Potatoes definitely count as a vegetable! You’re getting a large range of essential vitamins and minerals with potatoes, including vitamin C, vitamin B6, and potassium. Potatoes provide some fiber for gut health as well.
  • Special diets: This simple air fryer recipe is naturally plant-based, vegan, dairy free, and gluten free. Check out the FAQs section for a tip on making low carb and keto diced hash brown “potatoes.”
  • Versatile: Diced hash browns have a neutral flavor that works with a variety of different seasonings. I usually have hash browns for breakfast, but they can be served at lunch or dinner too.
  • Delicious: Potatoes are one of the most popular veggies around because they are inexpensive and tasty. IMVHO, those are some great reasons to try this recipe!

WHY YOU’LL LOVE THIS RECIPE:

  • These hash browns are so easy to make because they are cooked from frozen. No need to thaw the diced potatoes first! It will save you so much time.
  • They have the perfect texture. Nice and crisp on the outside yet tender on the inside. Just how fried potatoes should be.
  • The clean up is so simple that you’ll never want to cook hash browns any other way again.
  • They are really versatile and can be spiced however you like. They can be eaten with breakfast, brunch or as a side dish with lunch or dinner.
  • If you love air fryer hash browns you will love air fryer diced potatoes too!

INGREDIENTS:

  • A bag of frozen diced hash browns. Any brand will do! I personally use unseasoned diced hash browns but you can get pre-seasoned ones too.

HOW TO MAKE:

STEP ONE:

First, place the frozen hash browns on the trays of your air fryer or in the basket.

STEP TWO:

Cook the frozen diced potatoes for 25-27 minutes at 400F, ensuring you rotate the trays half way through, or give the hash browns a toss if you have a basket style air fryer.

STEP THREE:

Lastly, transfer the cooked hash browns to a bowl and toss them in the oil, salt and pepper. Then enjoy!

CHEF’S TIPS:

  • Every model of air fryer is different so you may have to adjust the cooking time depending on the model you use.
  • Depending on the size of your hash browns you may need to adjust the cooking time. If you have very finely chopped hash browns I recommend decreasing the cooking time.
  • Store these hash browns in the fridge in an air tight container for up to 5 days.
  • If you don’t cook the full bag of frozen hash browns, seal the bag and store it in the freezer until you are ready to use.
  • If you have any leftover cooked hash browns, store them in the fridge in an air tight container for up to 5 days.

VARIATIONS:

  • If you buy pre-seasoned and pre-oiled hash browns you likely won’t need to use the oil or salt and pepper.
  • Feel free to add other spices such as ground cinnamon, chili powder, Italian seasoning etc to give these hash browns a different flavour.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH HASH BROWNS:

  • A chicken omlette
  • Bacon and veggie casserole
  • Healthy turkey burgers
  • Air fryer sausages

    • Open the package of potatoes and pour into the basket, trying to fit in a single layer.

    • After 5 minutes of cooking, remove the basket and pour the defrosted potatoes into a large mixing bowl.
    • Drizzle the potatoes with 1-2 Tbsp olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. (Unless pre-seasoned). Stir.

INGREDIENT NOTES

Frozen “Shredded” (hash brown) Potatoes: These are often labeled as “hash browns” and sold in the frozen section near the french fries. Be sure to check there are NO additional seasonings (especially salt!) because you’ll be adding in your own seasoning.

Olive Oil: I like the flavor of olive oil, but any oil you have on hand will work.

Seasonings: Here is where you can either keep it simple or go all out! For this recipe, we are just using salt, pepper and garlic powder. But if you love a seasoning, use it!
