Hello and welcome to solsarin. This post is about “frozen steak fries in air fryer“.

Potato

The potato is a starchy tuber of the plant Solanum tuberosum and is a root vegetable native to the Americas. The plant is a perennial in the nightshade family Solanaceae.[2]

Wild potato species can be found from the southern United States to southern Chile.[3] The potato was originally believed to have been domesticated by Native Americans independently in multiple locations,[4] but later genetic studies traced a single origin, in the area of present-day southern Peru and extreme northwestern Bolivia. Potatoes were domesticated there approximately 7,000–10,000 years ago, from a species in the Solanum brevicaule complex.[5][6][7] In the Andes region of South America, where the species is indigenous, some close relatives of the potato are cultivated.

ARE AIR FRYER FRENCH FRIES HEALTHY?

Making French fries in the air fryer eliminates the deep fryer grease, so it isn’t at fattening.

WHAT POTATOES SHOULD I USE TO MAKE THESE FROM SCRATCH?

I prefer Russet potatoes because they are easier to work with, and get a crispy texture. Just remember to soak the cut fries in cold water to remove the starch. Otherwise, you may have soggy fries.

WHAT CAN I SERVE WITH STEAK FRIES?

Next to a steak, you can serve these fries with your favorite dipping sauce. We like barbecue sauce, ketchup, or they can be served with your favorite seasonings. If you aren’t sure how to cook steak, try our Ribeye recipe.

Recipe Tips

Before you make air fryer steak fries from frozen, read through these recipe tips so that your fries turn out awesome!

  • You don’t need to spray the frozen steak fries with extra oil since they usually contain oil already. However, if you want them to get extra crispy, you can lightly spray them with some avocado oil spray before placing them into the air fryer.
  • Since your brand of frozen steak fries and your air fryer will likely differ from ours, your cooking time might vary. Just keep an eye on your fries for that golden color and crispiness!
  • If you want to add (seasoning) salt or other spices to your fries, do that after you cooked the fries.

Storage Tips

Air-fried steak cut fries are best enjoyed hot and fresh.

However, if you do have leftovers, you can store them in a sealed container in the fridge. They will last for around 3-4 days.

They tend to get soft (due to the moisture) and won’t be as crispy anymore but they are still okay to eat.

Step 1: Add fries to the air fryer

Add your frozen fries into the basket and spread them out.

Making Air Fryer Steak Fries From Scratch

There is nothing better than making homemade air fryer steak fries! I have made them many times and wanted to share the directions with you.

  1. Wash and dry 4 to 5 Russet potatoes, then peel them.
  2. Cut them into 1/2-inch wedges.
  3. Soak them for about 20 to 30 minutes, which helps to remove the starch from the potatoes, which helps them crisp up!

WHY AIR FRY STEAK FRIES?

Short answer because it’s so good! Now let’s get into the long answers. Trust me, when you try this you are not looking back. So why is this so good!

Easy: Whether you are cooking from scratch or from frozen, the air fryer makes it super easy to enjoy steak fries.

Healthy: Enjoying fries almost guilt free is what I believe most people would love. With the air fryer, you need less oil to achieve the deep fried taste.

Red Robin lovers: If you love Red Robin steak fries, then you’d love these tasty air fryer steak fries.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH STEAK FRIES

Steak fries can be served on its own with your favorite dipping sauce like Ketchup, Barbecue sauce, Fry sauce etc.

They can also be served as a side to burgers, meatballs, and chicken recipes. Steak fries make a good base got loaded pub fries.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

  • Some brands of fries have more salt and oil than others, therefore the addition of these ingredients will vary by brand.
  • Steak fries are similar to potato wedges, because of their sizes and the way they are cut, they won’t get all crispy like French fries would. Bear that in mind as you make these. They will have slightly crispy edges with fluffy interior.
  • You can determine how crispy Golden you want your steak fries to be by adjusting the timing. However I recommend a minimum of 15 mins for frozen fries and 20 mins for steak fries that are made from scratch.
  • If making from scratch, try to cut the fries evenly so they can cook evenly

Why this recipe is so good

  • Cooking frozen fries in the air fryer couldn’t be easier and it’s so much better than frying them in oil.
  • Great for a simple side dish or snack for even the pickiest eater

SEASONING (OPTIONAL)

The seasoning I use for this recipe is my family’s preferred blend, but please feel free to use your favorite seasoning blend (try Italian seasoning, or Cajun), or skip the seasoning if you prefer plain steak fries.

The seasoning I use is a mix of:

  • Garlic powder
  • Onion powder
  • Smoked paprika
  • Kosher salt – you could substitute garlic salt, and leave out the garlic powder

OIL

If you are making these steak fries from scratch then you will need to add some oil. Frozen steak fries don’t need extra oil added (as they usually have oil already), but adding a bit of extra oil will give you extra crispy steak fries

I normally use light olive oil when cooking in my air fryer, however, you can use any cooking oil with a high smoke point. Vegetable oil or avocado oil are both good options.

Note: avoid using extra virgin olive oil as this recipe cooks at a high temperature, and it is likely to cause your air fryer to smoke.

STORING AND REHEATING

Store any leftover steak fries in an airtight container and store them in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

Reheat steak fries in the air fryer. Place them in the air fryer basket and reheat at 360°F/ 180°C for 6-8 minutes. Shake the basket to redistribute the fries halfway through the cooking time.

Can You Air Fry Frozen Steak Fries?

Yes, you can cook frozen steak fries from frozen in the air fryer. They are fantastic and have an amazing crispy texture to them.

Though they are not as easy to air fry compared to regular air fryer frozen French fries because they are parboiled and frozen with less oil and need more effort making with them.
