Every year the IRS mails letters or notices to taxpayers for many different reasons. Typically, it’s about a specific issue with a taxpayer’s federal tax return or tax account. A notice may tell them about changes to their account or ask for more information. It could also tell them they need to make a payment.

Some people may not have received their stimulus checks because the IRS has an old address or incorrect bank account information on file. If this is the case, the payment will be returned to the IRS. The IRS will re-issue the check once you submit the correct information.

The IRS number to call regarding your stimulus check is 800-829-1040. When you call it will be an automated message that will ask you questions and then direct you to a person of the IRS.

In 2022, you can visit GetYourRefund.org to claim any stimulus checks you haven’t gotten. You will need to file a 2020 tax return to get the first and second stimulus checks and a 2021 tax return to get the third stimulus check.
The IRS sends notices and letters for the following reasons: You have a balance due. You are due a larger or smaller refund. We have a question about your tax return.
Allow at least 30 days for a response. You shouldn’t have to call or visit an IRS office for most notices. If you do have questions, call the phone number in the upper right-hand corner of the notice. Have a copy of your tax return and the notice with you when you call.
You can call 1-800-829-1040 to get answers to your federal tax questions 24 hours a day. Tax forms and instructions for current and prior years are available by calling 1-800-829-3676. You can also order free publications on a wide variety of tax topics.
Tracking the status of a tax refund is easy with the Where’s My Refund? tool. It’s available anytime on IRS.gov or through the IRS2Go App. Taxpayers can start checking their refund status within 24 hours after an e-filed return is received.

Eligible individuals can visit IRS.gov and use the Get My Payment tool to find out the status of their Economic Impact Payment. This tool will show if a payment has been issued and whether the payment was direct deposited or sent by mail.
Most will be sent electronically, via direct deposit or loaded on an existing Direct Express card, and will arrive by April 7. Federal benefits recipients can expect to receive their stimulus payment the same way they normally get their benefits.
All third-round stimulus checks have been sent out, the IRS announced Wednesday. If you haven’t received all of the money you are eligible for, you will need to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return. The third stimulus checks were technically advance payments of that credit.
You can track the status of your third stimulus check using the IRS’s “Get My Payment” tool. If you’re getting a stimulus payment (not everyone is eligible), this online tool will let you know how it will be delivered (e.g., paper check or direct deposit) and provide an estimated arrival date.
Your first stimulus check, which you claim as the Recovery Rebate Credit, will be sent as part of your tax refund. You can check the status of your tax refund using the IRS tool Where’s My Refund.
To speak with a live representative, you can call the IRS Economic Impact Payment line at 800-919-9835. The IRS says that many frequently asked questions will be answered on the automated recording, and then you will have an option to speak live with a representative.
(KWQC) – According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, people are reporting an email that appears to be from the IRS and offers a third stimulus check. In a Facebook post, the Sheriff’s Office says the email is a scam. The Sheriff’s Office says you should not click on any link if you receive this email.

The third round of Economic Impact Payments was authorized by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 as an advance payment of the tax year 2021 Recovery Rebate Credit.

Real IRS letters have either a notice number (CP) or letter number (LTR) on either the top or bottom right-hand corner of the letter. If there’s no notice number or letter, it’s likely that the letter is fraudulent. It’s recommended you call the IRS at 800-829-1040.

At $1,400 per individual, this will be the largest stimulus check yet for most Americans. The first round paid $1,200, and the second paid $600. Before the Georgia Senate runoff, Biden pushed for a $2,000 stimulus payment.
What’s Taking So Long? If you don’t receive your refund in 21 days, your tax return might need further review. This may happen if your return was incomplete or incorrect. The IRS may send you instructions through the mail if it needs additional information in order to process your return.
When you e-file, it typically takes 24 to 48 hours for the IRS to accept your return. Once your return is accepted, you are on the IRS’ refund timetable. The IRS typically issues refunds in less than 21 days.
It is thought that the majority of delays when it comes to tax refunds is down to an error or inaccurate information on your return, with issues arising from stimulus money, the child tax credit, or earned income tax credit being at the top of the list.
Call at the best time.
A good rule of thumb: Call as early in the morning as possible. Phones are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. (your local time) Monday to Friday, except: Residents of Hawaii and Alaska should follow Pacific time. Puerto Rico hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time.
