Winston’s former wife Katherine hated sex, and as soon as they realized they would never have children, they separated. Winston desperately wants to have an enjoyable sexual affair, which he sees as the ultimate act of rebellion.

However, O’Brien is really an agent of the Thought Police, which has had Winston under surveillance for seven years.
Winston ‘s worst fear is rats. Throughout the novel, it is shown how much Winston hates rats. Rats are also used at the end of the novel when Winston is being tortured. Jones, Aaronson, and Rutherford are essentially symbolic representation of victims of oppression under the reign of Big Brother. Their tragic fate betray the dehumanized nature of the Party, which forces invalid confession out of contributing members to the revolution through violence and torture.
Duckspeak is a Newspeak term meaning literally to quack like a duck or to speak without thinking. Duckspeak can be either good or “ungood” (bad), depending on who is speaking, and whether what they are saying is in following with the ideals of Big Brother.
Big Brother and Emmanuel Goldstein are the conceptual leaders of the opposing forces in Oceania: Big Brother is the titular head of Oceania, and Goldstein is the leader of his opponents, the Brotherhood.
