NOTES

  1. Cooking time is based on my Cosori air fryer. Air fryer brands cook differently so keep an eye on the chicken wings as it cooks and adjust time accordingly.
  2. Size of wings may also affect cooking time.
  3.  No need to thaw before cooking.
  4. Do not overcrowd the basket. Cook in batches if needed.
  5. You need to drain the liquid that accumulates in the bottom of the air fryer as indicated in the recipe to ensure the chicken crisps up nicely.

What to serve with air fryer frozen chicken wings

I mean side dishes are very personal so choose whatever you like! Since these are packed with protein you can just pair them with some easy dinner rolls and mixed vegetables and serve. Or make:

  • French fries
  • Air fryer zucchini chips
  • A salad is my go to on really busy days
  • Pasta salad

The list goes on and on I tell you. Since they are so high in protein you get filled quite quickly really. If you just serve them with a side of carrot sticks, celery and some ranch dressing the kids will think you’re a dinner hero. And that is so easy you can totally do that!

Air Fryer Frozen Chicken Wings

Frozen Chicken Wings are super easy to make in the air fryer! Ready for dipping in minutes, air fryer frozen wings make a finger-licking dinner or snack for the big game!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen chicken wings (approximately 8-12 wings)
  • your favorite wing sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Add the wings into the air fryer tray when it is hot. Be sure not to overcrowd the air fryer – the wings should fit in one layer with some space between to allow for even cooking and crisping. If your air fryer is too small to fit all the wings, cook them in two batches.
  3. Cook the wings for 11-14 minutes for pre-cooked frozen wings, and 16-19 minutes for uncooked frozen wings. Flip the wings halfway through. Cook time can vary depending on the size of the wings and your air fryer. Just make sure that the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Remove the chicken wings once they are fully cooked/heated on the inside and are crispy on the outside.
  5. Optional: You can place the cooked chicken wings into a bowl and toss them in your favorite wing sauce if desired.
  6. Also optional: Serve the chicken wings with some celery sticks, carrot sticks, and a dipping sauce like blue cheese or ranch dressing.

  3. Open the air fryer basket and use a wooden spoon or spatula to break apart the chicken.
  4. Air fry the wings for an additional 4 minutes.
  5. Open the basket and season both sides of the wings.
  6. Air fry for 8 minutes.
  7. Open the basket and flip the wings.

Can You Cook All Your Chicken Wings In The Air Fryer?

Don’t over crowd the air fryer when you cook your air fryer frozen chicken wings. It’s better to do your air fryer chicken wings in batches. We recommend approximately 12-15 chicken wings cooking in the air fryer at once. Though this depends on your air fryer size as you might have a much bigger air fryer than us.

How Long to Cook Frozen Wings?

I find the wings only need to cook 6-10 minutes longer to cooking them fresh, which is pretty surprising. You will spend additional time opening the air fryer than you would with fresh wings.

In total, (for dry rub) the wings will need to cook for 23-25 minutes. Add additional cook time for breaded wings or if you’re using more than 1 pound of wings.

What Oil & Oil Sprayer is Best for the Air Fryer?

The biggest issue most air fryer lovers face is finding the right oil and oil sprayer to use on food cooked in the air fryer. A fine mist of oil will help the entire piece of food crisp evenly, so it’s very important.

My personal preference is to use canola oil, extra virgin olive oil, or avocado oil. I use both a refillable spray bottle like the Evo one pictured below and non-propellant extra virgin olive oil, which has not harmful aerosols or chemicals.

Can I Baste the Chicken Wings in the Air Fryer?

You can baste chicken wings with a sauce – like one that was mentioned above – in the air fryer, if you wish. You don’t want to do it too early on in the cooking process or it might burn.

To baste the chicken wings with a sauce, wait until the last 5 minutes of cooking. So if you’re cooking them for 30 minutes, you’ll flip them after 15 minutes, then baste them after 25 minutes. Baste one side of the wings, cook for another 3 minutes, then flip and baste again. Cook until they reach your desired crispiness.

  • 1 TBS extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp freshly cracked pepper

1. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.

2. Place 8 of the frozen chicken wing portions in a bowl or on a plate. Coat the wings with 1/2 the olive and 1/2 the salt and pepper. Rub the oil and seasonings all over the frozen wings.

Helpful Air Frying Tips

  • It may be easier to remove the frozen wings from the package if left to thaw for 30 minutes or so on the counter. You can also run the package under warm water for a quick thaw out.
  • Don’t overcrowd the basket. For the best crispy results, the wings shouldn’t touch. Work in batches if needed.
  • Dry wings with a paper towel before air frying, as this will remove any excess liquid that could prevent the skin from crisping.
  • Don’t forget to drain any liquid that has accumulated at the bottom of the air fry basket or tray after the first 10 minutes. If it’s left there, it will create steam that will work to steam your chicken rather than crisp it up.
  • Every air fryer is different and cooks at various speeds. For the first time cooking any recipe, get to know your air fryer by constantly checking in on the food and monitoring the results. Your air fryer may need more or less time than mine.
