as of September 25, 1983, Donald McKinley Glover Jr. was born at Edwards Air Force Base in Edwards, California, and later was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia, where his father was stationed. Beverly Glover (née Smith) is a retired daycare provider, and Donald Glover Sr. is a retired postal worker. The Glover family served in foster care for a period of fourteen years, and Glover was raised as a Jehovah’s Witness before he left the military. A younger brother of his, Stephen, would later be a writer and producer who collaborates with him on a number of projects. He also has a sister named Brianne.
As a high school graduate, Glover attended Avondale High School and DeKalb School of the Arts, where he was voted the “Most Likely to Write for The Simpsons” in his yearbook. With a degree in Dramatic Writing, he graduated from New York University Tisch School of the Arts in 2006. in 2006 glover caught producer David miner’s attention after sending writing samples including a spec script for The Simpsons. Miner and Tina Fey were
impressed by Glover’s work and hired him for the NBC sitcom 30 Rock. Glover worked as a writer for 30 Rock between 2006 and 2009, and he also appeared on the show occasionally. In 2008, Glover and his co-writers were
awarded the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Series for the third season of 30 Rock.
The sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live offered Glover the role of President Barack Obama in 2008; however, he did not succeed; the role was
given to cast member Fred Armisen. Glover, who attended New York University, became a member of the sketch comedy group Derrick Comedy while attending NYU. Since 2006, Glover has appeared in their sketches on YouTube along with Dominic Dierkes, Meggie McFadden, DC Pierson, and Dan Eckman.
