Air fryer

An air fryer is a small countertop convection oven designed to simulate deep frying without submerging the food in oil. A fan circulates hot air at high speed, producing a crisp layer via browning reactions such as the Maillard reaction. Some product reviewers find that regular convection ovens or convection toaster ovens produce better results, or say that air frying is essentially the same as convection baking.

Cooking

Air fryers circulate hot air to cook food that would otherwise be submerged in oil. The air fryer’s cooking chamber radiates heat from a heating element near the food, and a fan circulates hot air.

The original Philips Airfryer used radiant heat from a heating element just above the food and convection heat from a strong air stream flowing upwards through the open bottom of the food chamber, delivering heat from all sides, with a small volume of hot air forced to pass from the heater surface and over the food, with no idle air circulating as in a convection oven. A shaped guide directs the airflow over the bottom of the food. The technique was patented as Rapid Air technology.

Traditional frying methods induce the Maillard effect at temperatures of 140 to 165 °C (284 to 329 °F) by completely submerging foods in hot oil, well above the boiling point of water. The air fryer works by coating the food in a thin layer of oil and circulating air at up to 200 °C (392 °F) to apply sufficient heat to cause the reaction.

Most air fryers have temperature and timer adjustments that allow more precise cooking. Food is typically cooked in a basket that sits on a drip tray. The basket must be periodically agitated, either manually or by the fryer mechanism. Convection ovens and air fryers are similar in the way they cook food, but air fryers are generally smaller and give off less heat.

How To Clean Your Air Fryer

  • Unplug your air fryer from the outlet. While this might seem like common sense, it is worth mentioning as it is very important.
  • Let your air fryer completely cool down. There is no need to immediately clear your machine right after use. It is dangerous and you can easily burn yourself!
  • Wipe the outside of your oil less fryer with a damp cloth. The cloth should be wet enough to gently wipe away food or grease but it should not be dripping with moisture.
  • Remove the basket container. Your basket should have two parts. Be sure to remove the inner basket from the outer basket, when cool. Gently scrub each basket with soap and water. Many new air fryer models have dishwasher safe baskets!
  • If the inside of your air fryer is dirty, you can wipe it down with a damp sponge.
  • Check the heating element of your fryer. You might need to gently turn the machine upside down to easily see and access the air fryer heating element. You can use a damp sponge to clean or a soft brush.

Frozen Fries in Air Fryer

It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got a bag of crinkle-cut, waffle, shoestring, steak, or even curly fries: Frozen fries in the air fryer cook up with the most irresistible crispy edges and soft centers. The crisp-factor is higher than you’ll ever achieve from baking fries in the oven. And frozen fries in the air fryer are the closest you’ll get to crispy restaurant-style deep-fried fries, without the hassle of deep-frying. Here’s what you need to know.

How Long Do You Put Frozen French Fries in the Air Fryer?

The cook time for air fryer frozen french fries will vary depending on the type of fries.

  • Shoestring fries: 9 to 10 minutes
  • Curly fries: 10 to 12 minutes
  • Steak fries: 10 to 12 minutes
  • Waffle fries: 12 to 14 minutes
  • Crinkle-cut fries: 18 to 20 minutes
  • Straight-cut fries: 18 to 20 minutes

INGREDIENTS

  • pound frozen french fries
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt (optional)

How to Make Frozen French Fries Extra Crispy

To make the absolute crispiest frozen fries in the air fryer, here are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Keep the temperature high. 400ºF is the sweet spot for frozen french fries.
  2. Don’t overcrowd the basket. It’s important that the fries are in a single layer in the basket. It’s OK if some of them are touching, but they shouldn’t be overlapping.
  3. Cook in batches, if you have to. If your air fryer has a large basket (say, like in most toaster oven-air fryer combos) you’ll likely be able to cook the fries in a single batch. Otherwise, cook the fries in batches; it’ll take more time, but the crispier fries will make it worth it.

What to Serve with Frozen French Fries

Ketchup will always be my top pick for frozen french fries, but all dipping sauces are fair game here. Here are a few of our other favorites to serve with fries.

  • Fry Sauce
  • Easiest-Ever BBQ Sauce
  • Garlic Aioli
  • Creamy Honey Mustard Sauce
  • Magic Summer Sauce
  • Big Mac Sauce

Tips and tricks for cooking frozen French fries

Most French fries should cook within 8 minutes or so, provided you preheated your fryer. Thicker fries might need closer to ten minutes. See below for specific brand examples.

Don’t overcrowd your fryer. If you want the very crispiest, best frozen fries, you need to ensure there’s plenty of room in your air fryer. If you start piling french fry on top of fry – your results will degrade.

Sweet potato fries and regular fries are both fine – and both cook roughly the same.

Are Arbys Frozen Curly Fries Healthy

If you consume a serving size indicated by this product, you are still considered medium healthy, because this is a processed food product. According to the salt daily requirements, if you eat more than 1 serving size, you are probably consuming more salt and calories than you should.

Try making your own curly fries at home by purchasing fresh ingredients and making them yourself if you are on a strict diet.

AIR FRYER FROZEN FRENCH FRIES

How to air fry frozen French fries:

  • Pour your frozen fries into the air basket. It is fine to let them stack, but try not to fill your basket more than half way up.
  • Spritz your fries with vegetable oil with a pump spray bottle. Then shake the basket and spritz again. We don’t recommend non-stick spray cans for this.
  • Cook your fries at 390 degrees for 20 minutes. Shake the basket after 10 minutes of cooking and then shake and check again at 15 minutes.
  • Test your fry for crispiness and continue cooking two minutes at a time until you get your desired crispiness. This is an important step as fries vary in thickness. Our 20 minute guideline is based on a McDonalds size French fry. Thicker ones will take a bit longer.

How Long Should These Be Cooked

There are a few things you want to keep in mind when making these, the first is that all air fryers heat differently, even the same brand. Its true!

I have found that the perfect time for us is 400 degrees for 20 minutes, it gives them the crisp taste I want in a french fry. This recipe will suggest 20 minutes, which has been the perfect time for our french fries, Id suggest checking in on them around 18 minutes to be sure that yours cook to your preferred crispness.

Ideas to make your fries a little better:

First, there are different seasonings. A good homemade seasoning has paprika and garlic at a minimum. I am a fan of this seasoning recipe from Little Sunny Kitchen.

You can also use a little bit of store-bought seasoned salt if you like. A personal favorite for a little spice is Tony’s creole seasoning.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound frozen french fries
  • Oil, for spritzing on the fries
  • Salt, for seasoning

Instructions

  1. Pour French fries into the air fryer basket. Spritz with oil, shake basket, and spritz again.
  2. Cook at 390 degrees for 20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through cooking.
  3. Shake again at 15 minutes and check for doneness. 20 minutes is a guideline, but will vary based on the thickness of the fries.

Notes

Test a fry for doneness and continue cooking longer to reach the level of crispness you desire. Thicker fries will likely need additional time.

Serve with your dip or seasoning of choice.

Why You Should Give Air Fryer Frozen Fries A Try

  • Yes, you can deep fry your frozen fries, Ive been doing it for years but once youve cooked a bag of frozen fries in an air fryer, youll never go back to deep frying them.
  • Its healthy, just imagine a full bag of frozen fries needing only teaspoons of oil. if they are regular french fries then you dont need oil at all.
  • No more standing over a stove top to check on the oil heat or burning the fries. when you make the frozen fries in an air fryer, you set the time, go about your work, when the bell dings you take them out and serve.
  • Zero cleaning up or using multiple plates or kitchen paper towels to soak in excess oil, once done, you only have the air fryer basket to clean.
  • Movie night french fry snacking is just a matter adding the frozen fries into the air fryer basket and setting the time.
