Early life and career of Paul Lavers
He was born in Bristol in 1950, the son of Josephine (née Richards) and Frank Lavers. During his early childhood, he was diagnosed with an esophageal condition that prevented him from eating solid food, and he was operated on at the age of 16 to correct it.
During his time at St. Brendan’s College in Bristol, Lavers gained the first acting experience. He had a role in the BBC Radio Children’s serial The Adventures of Clara Chuff for three years from the age of 11 when he was a child. In the aftermath of his graduation from St. Brendan’s, Lavers attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, where Pete Postlethwaite was a fellow student. As a student here, Lavers appeared in a variety of plays at the Bristol Old Vic, including As You Like It (1969-1970), Three Sisters (1969-1970), The Friend (1971-1972), and The Workhouse Donkey (1971-1972).

The first thing he did after he left drama school was to appear as David Teal in an episode of the TV series The Onedin Line (1972). Following that, he had a season at the Library Theatre in Manchester. In addition to She Stoops to Conquer (1973-1974), Lavers performed Jumpers (1973-1974), Vivat! Vivat Regina! (1973-1974), and Othello (1973-1974), all at the Bristol Old Vic. Having played Lord Dattering in The Treasure of Abbot Thomas (1974), which was part of the BBC’s A Ghost Story for Christmas series, he went on to play Julia Foster’s first husband in the BBC dramatization of Moll Flanders (1975) opposite Julia Foster.

Lavers acted as James Lamert in Dickens of London (1976) for Yorkshire Television, and as Aspinall in an episode of the BBC drama When the Boat Comes In (1976) for the BBC. In addition to performing in The Blue Poster on Norway TV, he also played the role of Jack Worthing in The Importance of Being Earnest at Westcliff Palace Theatre, followed by She Stoops to Conquer at Leicester’s Haymarket Theatre. During 1977, he starred as the Infantry Major in Wings, and after playing Farrah in Doctor Who’s story The Androids of Tara (1978), he spent three months at the English Theater in Vienna playing Algernon in The Importance of Being Earnest for three months. It was in 1978 that he portrayed Harvey in Wilde Alliance, a Doctor in You’re Only Young Twice, and in 1979 that he returned to The Onedin Line to portray Francis Polter in Wilde Alliance.

It was in 1980 that he played Selwyn in Love in a Cold Climate, while in 1981 he played Cynon in Into the Labyrinth, a children’s television series. In the meantime, Lavers decided to take a job as a tutor in the theatre course at the Youth Training Scheme after his acting roles dried up and he was in need of money to support his young family. As the ‘Mr. Midnight’, he appeared throughout the night to introduce programmes for Anglia Television from 1984 to 1993 that he was a Presenter.
It was in 1993 that Paul started working in the home shopping channel industry. He worked for QVC from 1993 to 2000 and then moved to Ideal World in 2000.
As a presenter on Friendly TV in 2003, Lavers inadvertently broadcast a rumour that he suspected Nicole Kidman was gay during a commercial break, after his microphone was left open during a commercial break. Recent acting career of Paul Lavers
In 2009, Lavers acted as the Dame in a pantomime Mother Goose at the Pavilion Theater in Gorleston alongside his former Anglia television colleague Helen McDermott as the Invigilator in Rosamunde Pilcher: Decision of the Heart, and in 2012 he played the Invigilator in Doctors. As of 2014, he has performed as the Invigilator in Doctors, King Pomposity in the pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk at the Theater Royal in Lincoln, and also as Lyman Wyeth in Other Desert Cities at the English Theater in Vienna as well. He appeared in two advertisements for Haribo on television in the year 2016.

It was from March to May 2016 that Lavers performed Les Blancs at the National Theatre, while from June to July 2016, he performed One Man, Two Guvnors at the Theatre Royal Summer Repertory Theatre in Windsor as Charlie Clench and Deadly Nightcap at the Theatre Royal Summer Repertory Theatre in Windsor. At the Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage, he appeared in a production of Bedroom Farce opposite his wife Érin Geraghty in October 2016. This year, he returned to the Gordon Craig Theatre in May as Rod Trusser in Alan Ayckbourn’s Neighbourhood Watch, and in November of the same year appeared as Harvey in Ayckbourn’s Season’s Greetings at the same theatre.
During December 2016, Lavers played the role of Sultan Mustaffa-Biscuit in the pantomime Aladdin at the Hartlepool Town Hall Theatre.
It was in 2020 that Lavers played Admiral von Schreiber on a UK and Ireland tour of The Sound of Music. Venues visited include Dublin, Derry, Sunderland, Blackpool, Bradford, Wolverhampton, Woking, Milton Keynes, Crawley, Eastbourne, Sheffield and Chester.
There was a stage version of Catch Me If You Can that
he toured with Patrick Duffy and Linda Purl in 2022.

Personal life
In the early 1970s, during a season at the Library Theatre in Manchester,
Lavers met his first wife, Monica Garvey, whom he married in 1973. The couple had two sons, and they later divorced. In 1980, Lavers married his second wife, actress Érin Geraghty.
