Cleveland High School
The last school that was desegregated was Cleveland High School in Cleveland, Mississippi. This happened in 2016. The order to desegregate this school came from a federal judge, after decades of struggle. This case originally started in 1965 by a fourth-grader.
Holmes County Board of Education that schools had to desegregate “immediately,” instead of the previous ruling of “with all deliberate speed” in Brown v. Board in 1954. By Feb. 1, 1970, schools across the state of Mississippi and in Yalobusha County finally integrated after over a decade of willful delay.
Even before the Mendez appeals court decision, the California state legislature acted to repeal all provisions in the education code that permitted school segregation. Governor Earl Warren signed this law in June 1947, thus ending nearly 100 years of public school segregation in the state.
Desegregation began in Virginia on February 2, 1959, after a nearly three-year battle in the federal courts that had started in the spring of 1956.

The desegregation of Boston public schools (1974–1988) was a period in which the Boston Public Schools were under court control to desegregate through a system of busing students.

Boston Latin School
On April 23, 1635, the first public school in what would become the United States was established in Boston, Massachusetts. Known as the Boston Latin School, this boys-only public secondary school was led by schoolmaster Philemon Pormont, a Puritan settler.
Bethel Church began a Sunday school in 1795, Cyrus Bustill opened a school in his home in 1803, and Absalom Jones enlarged one school and opened another in 1804.
