Ham

Ham is pork from a leg cut that has been preserved by wet or dry curing, with or without smoking.[1] As a processed meat, the term “ham” includes both whole cuts of meat and ones that have been mechanically formed.

Ham is made around the world, including a number of regional specialties, such as Westphalian ham and some varieties of Spanish jamón. In addition, numerous ham products have specific geographical naming protection, such as prosciutto di Parma in Europe, and Smithfield ham in the US.

Turkey Club Hawaiian Roll Sliders Hack

The “club” in a club sandwich is an acronym for Chicken and Lettuce Under Bacon. So a turkey version should technically be called a Tlub, which doesn’t roll off the tongue. So a turkey club is a turkey and lettuce under bacon sandwich.

This version of ours replaces the lettuce with cheese because it’s easier to make that way. The cheese helps these sandwiches stay together and lettuce would cause the ingredients to slide.

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bacon
  • 1 pack Hawaiian rolls (12 count pack)
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 pound sliced turkey breast
  • 7 slices American cheese

Instructions

    1. Make your eight slices of bacon. Set aside and allow them to cool completely.
    2. Use a large serrated knife to completely cut the pack of Hawaiian rolls in half, longways.
    3. Spread half the mayonnaise on the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls and the rest of the mayonnaise on the top half of the Hawaiian rolls. Set the top half aside.
    4. Layer half the sliced turkey breast, in two layers, on top of the bottom half.
    5. Layer the cheese on top of the turkey breast.
    6. Lay the bacon on top of the cheese.
    7. Add the rest of the sliced turkey breast, in two layers, on top of the cheese.
    8. Lay the top half of the sandwich, mayonnaise side down, on top of the turkey breast.
    9. Take that serrated knife and cut the Hawaiian rolls at their perforations. That will cut this one large sandwich into 12 individual sandwiches.

MONTE CRISTO SLIDERS

Sliders are a great appetizer that could also be a meal. I have a few slider recipes, including Cheeseburger Sliders, Kentucky Hot Brown Sliders, and Ham and Cheese Sliders, just to name a few. These Monte Cristo Sliders were based on the Monte Cristo sandwich that was made famous by the restaurant, Bennigan’s. The sweet and savory sandwich is deep-fried, but these sliders are baked in the oven.

Ingredients

  • 12 King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls
  • 6 slices mild cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound roasted turkey deli meat
  • 1 pound honey ham deli meat
  • 6 slices Swiss cheese

Topping

  • ¼ cup (57g) unsalted butter, melted

Dipping Sauce

  • confectioners’ sugar, for topping
  • red raspberry preserves, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Split the rolls in half. Place the bottom halves of the rolls in the prepared baking dish.

  3. Top with the slices of cheddar cheese, roasted turkey, honey ham, and finally, Swiss cheese.

  4. Place the top halves of the buns on top.

  5. Brush the tops of the rolls with melted butter.

  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is hot and bubbly.

  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 5 minutes (or until the tops of the sliders turn a golden brown).

  8. Remove from oven. Allow the sliders to cool for about 5 minutes.

  9. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and serve warm with raspberry preserves for dipping.

WHAT TO SERVE WITH SLIDERS

If you are serving the sliders as a meal, be sure to include a side dish or two. Mashed potatoes would complement the sliders really well. You could also serve them with homemade french fries, air fryer tater tots, or even homemade potato chips. Add a vegetable like green beans or asparagus to round out the meal.

Baked Ham and Cheese Sliders

Tips for making ham and Swiss sliders

  • I encourage you to use Hawaiian rolls when making any sort of sliders- I’ve tested a variety of different rolls for various slider recipes and Hawaiian rolls always add the best flavor and are the easiest to cut.
  • If you can, try to keep the tops of the rolls and the bottoms each in one piece when you cut them in half. I use a really sharp bread knife and slowly cut through the middle, making sure to keep an eye on both sides so as not to thin out the tops or bottoms too much.
  • Baking the bottom buns for a few minutes helps to avoid the honey mustard sauce making the bottom buns get soggy.
  • I gave a range of the amounts of ham and cheese slices you’ll need because each brand is a little different in terms of size.
  • Don’t skip the butter and poppy seed topping for the buns, trust me! That butter mixture adds killer flavor
  • If you want extra honey mustard sauce for dipping, double those ingredients.

Ingredients for making Hawaiian roll sliders

  • Cooking spray
  • Package of Hawaiian rolls
  • Prepared yellow mustard
  • Honey
  • Sliced deli ham
  • Sliced Swiss cheese
  • Butter
  • Poppy seeds
  • Onion powder
Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9″ x 13″ baking pan with cooking spray. Set aside.

  2. Carefully cut the Hawaiian rolls through the middle trying to keep the tops and bottoms in one piece. Set the tops aside and place the bottoms into the greased baking pan.

  3. Bake uncovered for 5 minutes and remove from oven.

  4. While the bun bottoms are baking whisk together the prepared yellow mustard and honey until well combined.

  5. Spread the honey mustard in an even layer on the bun bottoms.

  6. Top with an even layer of ham.

  7. Top with an even layer of Swiss cheese.

  8. Place the bun tops on top of the sliders.

  9. In a small bowl, whisk together the butter, poppy seeds and onion powder until well combined. Brush this mixture evenly onto the tops of the buns.

  10. Return pan to oven and bake for 10-15 minutes until the bun tops are golden and the cheese is melted. Serve immediately.

    Are ham and cheese sliders good cold?

    These are definitely best served right away.

    How do you reheat ham and cheese sliders?

    The oven is best for this- reheat in a baking dish covered in foil at 350 degrees until heather through. Make sure you store leftovers covered in the fridge until you’re ready to reheat. They’ll last for 2-3 days.

    What if I don’t like mustard?

    You can leave it off, but you might want to substitute another favorite sauce because they’re a little dry without any sauce (I tested these without sauce too because my husband hates mustard!).

    What cheese goes best with ham?

    It’s totally a matter of opinion but I think Swiss goes best. If you prefer a different type of cheese, feel free to use that instead!
