Bread is a staple food prepared from a dough of flour (usually wheat) and water, usually by baking. Throughout recorded history and around the world, it has been an important part of many cultures’ diet. It is one of the oldest human-made foods, having been of significance since the dawn of agriculture, and plays an essential role in both religious rituals and secular culture.
Bread may be leavened by naturally occurring microbes (e.g. sourdough), chemicals (e.g. baking soda), industrially produced yeast, or high-pressure aeration, which creates the gas bubbles that fluff up bread. In many countries, commercial bread often contains additives to improve flavor, texture, color, shelf life, nutrition, and ease of production.

I can’t find Hawaiian rolls! What else can I use?
If your grocery store is out of Hawaiian rolls, we recommend buying the softest, squishiest white dinner rolls or slider buns you can find. Potato rolls are also an amazing substitution if you can find the mini slider size!
Can I change up the fillings?
Absolutely! We love the combo of ham, Swiss, and caramelized onions, but you can definitely switch it up. Sub out the ham for sliced turkey, roast beef, or other sliced lunch meat. Try another good melting cheese, such as Cheddar, Provolone, or Gruyere. Just do yourself a favor and keep the caramelized onions — they might take a little extra time to make, but their jammy goodness is worth every second.
Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! You can fully assemble the leftovers and cover with plastic wrap a few hours or even the night before your event. Simply wait to bake until you’re about to serve and you are golden (just like these sliders)!
How do I store the leftovers?
If you have leftovers you can store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, we recommend warming them in the oven at 350° in their own little foil packet.

½ to ¾ pound sliced ham, sliced thin
½ to ¾ pound Swiss cheese, sliced thin
1/2 cup (1 stick) melted butter
1 tablespoon poppy seed
1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1-2 teaspoon onion powder (or dried onion)
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat the oven to 350F. Spray a 9×13 pan with cooking spray and set aside
The rolls will look like a large solid piece of bread. Leave the rolls intact and slice the loaf in half with a long serrated knife to form a top layer and a bottom layer. Do NOT pull the rolls apart, you want to keep them connected. Place the bottom half of the rolls in the prepared pan
Layer the ham and the cheese on the bottom layer of rolls, then place the top layer of rolls over the ham and cheese and set aside.
In a small bowl add melted butter, poppy seeds, Worcestershire sauce, dry mustard, onion powder, and whisk to combine. Slowly and evenly pour butter mixture over rolls. You can use a rubber spatula to spread the mixture over the rolls if needed. NOTE: some of the butter mixture will pool at the bottom of the pan.
Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cheese has melted and tops are golden brown.
Let them cool slightly before cutting. Serve warm.
NOTES
These reheat well too, even in the microwave.
