Hello and welcome to solsarin. This post is about “hawaiian ham and swiss sliders“.
“Slider” is believed to have been first used to describe the onion-steamed small burgers at White Castle restaurants.[1] The term has since been picked-up by other restaurants,[2] usually to describe a small hamburger, but sometimes used to describe any small sandwich made with a slider bun. White Castle later trademarked the spelling variant “Slyder” and used it between 1985 and 2009.[3]
Sliders can be served as hors d’oeuvres, snacks, or entrées.[4] They have since become a popular game day appetizer in the United States.[5]
Ham and Swiss Sliders are stacked with ham and melty Swiss cheese then smothered with a honey mustard glaze for a truly special sandwich. These Hawaiian Roll Sliders are perfect for tailgating and absolutely disappear at parties!
Whole grain mustard can usually be found in the condiment store of your local mustard. It may also be called stone ground mustard. You should be able to see the little seedy grains in the mustard. I prefer regular whole grain mustard, not whole grain dijon.

DIRECTIONS:
When it comes to ultimate finger foods, it doesn’t get much better than these sliders. Between the pillowy soft Hawaiian rolls, the warm, savory ham and the ooey gooey melted cheese these sliders are guaranteed to be crowd pleaser. You’ll want to make a double batch because leftovers are just as amazing!
These sliders aren’t just great for appetizers. This is such a quick and easy recipe; these hot ham and cheese party sandwiches can double for an easy weeknight dinner. Just serve them with a simple side like this Creamy Cumber Salad, Honey Lime Rainbow Fruit Salad or easy Cole Slaw and you’ll have a complete meal on the table in under 45 minutes.
You can use any type of ham you prefer. Honey ham, smoked ham, black forest deli ham are all great choices! These party sandwiches are also a great way to use up leftover ham from Christmas or Easter.
While you can freeze unbaked sliders, it’s best to do so before adding the sauce. Once you have thaw them, just add the sauce and baked a usual.
If you are wanting to freeze leftovers that have baked, just wrap them in a couple layers of plastic wrap. Stick them in a freezer bag for up to a couple of months.
For best results when reheating them, allow them to thaw overnight in the fridge first. Then just put them in a preheated oven until they heated through.
Why Sliders Called Sliders?
The term ‘sliders’ originated in the 1940s during the Second World War. My Grandfather was a young man of 20 then and had enlisted in the Merchant Marines. For decades, I heard him refer to the burgers my Grandmother would fry up in a pan as a slider, referring to the grease that would build in the pan as the beef seared. I only figured out what they were when we all piled in the car and headed for the Key City Diner in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, a haunt for my grandparents during the War when my Grandfather would get leave. He always ordered a plate of sliders, or “greasy little hamburgers that after only two bites would slide right down!”
I generally just serve these easy ham and cheese sliders on Hawaiian rolls with chips or oven fries, a quick pickle relish macaroni salad, or even potato salad. If you feel like you need additional items of substance because you’re feeding a very large group, consider a mac and cheese or racks of ribs that can made right in your oven.
Thank you for staying with this post “hawaiian ham and swiss sliders” until the end.
