Chase Field

Does the Phoenix light rail go to Chase Field?

However, in downtown Phoenix, the tracks split and form a single track for north/south and east/west trains. Most people know that there is a light rail stop at 3rd St/Jefferson near Chase Field, but new riders might not realize that this is an east bound train. Not to worry, you just need to know your way around.

When did the Arizona Diamondbacks Stadium Open?

Chase Field (formerly Bank One Ballpark) opened on March 31, 1998. The ballpark was part of the new age of baseball with it being a baseball-only ballpark. One notable feature was that Arizona Diamondbacks Stadium was the first venue in the United States to have a retractable roof over natural grass. Rogers Centre (home of the Blue Jays) also has a retractable roof, but they play over turf. Chase Field

Chase Field, formerly Bank One Ballpark, is a retractable roof stadium in Downtown Phoenix, Arizona. It is the home of Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks. It opened in 1998, the year the Diamondbacks debuted as an expansion team. Chase Field was the first stadium built in the United States with a retractable roof over a natural-grass playing surface.

History

The park was built during a wave of new, baseball-only parks in the 1990s. Although nearly all of these parks were open-air, it was taken for granted that a domed stadium was a must for a major-league team to be a viable venture in the Phoenix area. Phoenix is by far the hottest major city in North America; the average high temperature during baseball‘s regular season is 99.1 °F (37.3 °C), and game-time temperatures well above 100 °F (38 °C) are very common during the summer.

Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks (colloquially known as the D-backs) are an American professional baseball team based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Diamondbacks compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the National League (NL) West division. The franchise was established as an expansion team and began play in 1998. The team plays its home games at Chase Field, formerly known as Bank One Ballpark. In its fourth season, Arizona won a World Series championship, defeating the New York Yankees in 2001 to become the fastest expansion team in major league history to win a championship.

From 1998 to 2021, the Diamondbacks have an overall record of 1,840–1,946 (.486).

Arizona Diamondbacks Spring Training: Revival in Scottsdale

It’s the only spring-training ballpark to be built on tribal land and the newest facility in the Cactus League. It’s also a great place to take in a game, representing the state of the art in spring-training facilities. Unless you’re truly strapped for time or don’t want to venture past a favorite facility, a visit to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick should be on the agenda for anyone visiting Phoenix for Arizona Diamondbacks spring training action.

For decades, the approach to a spring-training facility was pretty static: there was a main ballpark where games were played, maybe with a couple open fields for practices, drills and minor-league workouts. The widely accepted premise was, if it was good enough for Connie Mack at Fort Myers’ Terry Park in 1925, it was good enough for every other MLB team.

But designers of more recent spring-training facilities have walk away from this model; a new goal for architects and team management is to integrate what fans love about spring training – player access, warmer weather, a relaxed atmosphere – with the daily functionality of the complex. The HKS Sports & Entertainment Group first addressed these issues with Camelback Ranch – Glendale, which opened in 2009, and reinvented them at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick while also extending them further with some local touches. There’s plenty of shade in and around the ballpark in the form of ramadas. And there’s no blocky ballpark exterior wall; fences guide your way.

If it sounds like we recommend a visit to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick: We do, wholeheartedly. A trip to the Cactus League wouldn’t be the same without a trip to a Diamondbacks or Rockies game.

2022 Spring Training Update

Despite its best efforts, Major League Baseball has not yet been able to reach a new collective bargaining agreement with the Major League Baseball Players Association. Due to the ongoing negotiations, MLB has notified all Clubs that it is no longer possible to play the first week of Spring Training games (February 26 – March 4) as originally scheduled. We are disappointed that we are not able to start as scheduled and apologize for the inconvenience this causes. MLB is working to get the game back on the field as quickly as possible.

If you purchased Spring Training tickets directly from the Diamondbacks or Salt River Fields, single game, mini plan, group ticket and hospitality buyers will automatically receive a refund to their original point of purchase.

Please allow 10-14 days for your refund to received. At the conclusion of the 2022 Spring Training season, season ticket holders will receive a full refund for games that weren’t played due to the ongoing negotiations. If you purchased tickets from a secondary ticket provider, including StubHub, MLB’s Official Fan‐to‐Fan Ticket Marketplace, please reach out to them directly to explore your options.

MLB is working diligently to reach a new agreement with the MLBPA as soon as possible without any further disruption to the Spring Training schedule. It is also important to note that the 2022 MLB regular season schedule has not been altered and every effort is being made to reach a new agreement in time to play a full 162 game season.

Season ticket holders with questions or who are looking for more information should contact their customer service representative or call 480-270-5000.

Using MLB.tv

The MLB also has MLB.tv, which live streams all out-of-market games for all teams. Unfortunately, Arizona Diamondbacks games on here are subject to blackouts if you are within what considered the team’s “home region”.

If you find yourself trying to watch a game on the MLB.TV that is blacked out, you will need a VPN to mask your location.

If the MLB attempts to blackout live streaming of Arizona Diamondbacks games due to you being within the their home viewing area, use a VPN to get around it.

By using a VPN, or virtual private network, your home’s exact location masked. Teams then cannot determine if you are within their blackout “range”, thus allowing you to watch whatever sports team you want.

Our favorite VPN service — and one of the most respected — is NordVPN. I recently switched to NordVPN, which is the most trusted VPN service anywhere. I can vouch that they work for this exact use-case because I’ve done it.

A VPN hides where you actually are on the internet. After purchasing their service, you get an IP address that registered from some far-away place (think Germany, Italy or Seattle), and that IP either entered into your home internet router or via their downloaded “VPN app” on whatever device you plan on watching sports on (phone, TV, tablet, etc). This IP address acts as a disguise to the various major sports teams that attempt to “blackout” their streaming services for those of us that can simply watch it on our TVs or computers.
