Hello. Welcome to solsarin. This post is about “frankenstein rice krispie treats“.

Rice

Rice is the seed of the grass species Oryza sativa (Asian rice) or less commonly Oryza glaberrima (African rice). The name wild rice is usually used for species of the genera Zizania and Porteresia, both wild and domesticated, although the term may also be used for primitive or uncultivated varieties of Oryza.

As a cereal grain, domesticated rice is the most widely consumed staple food for over half of the world’s human population,[Liu 1] especially in Asia and Africa. It is the agricultural commodity with the third-highest worldwide production, after sugarcane and maize.[1] Since sizable portions of sugarcane and maize crops are used for purposes other than human consumption, rice is the most important food crop with regard to human nutrition and caloric intake, providing more than one-fifth of the calories consumed worldwide by humans.[2] There are many varieties of rice and culinary preferences tend to vary regionally.

How to make Frankenstein Rice Krispies

Next, add chocolate sprinkles for extra flair and then place your candy eyes. You can find candy eyes in the baking aisle! I used the big eyes but you can use small ones too! I sometimes make my own candy eyes for treats! Use a little of the melted chocolate to “glue” on your eyes and the other upcoming pieces. I love putting on the eyes because they really start to come alive!

After the eyes it’s time for the “bolts,” eyebrows and mouths! I used Pocky sticks to make the brows, these are at every grocery store I’ve been to. They’re usually in the Asian aisle! And I picked up this black gel for the mouths in the baking aisle.

These Frankenstein Rice Krispies look very cute even without the rolo “bolts” so if you’re looking for a way to simplify these, that’s something you could do without

HOW TO MAKE GREEN RICE KRISPIE TREATS…

  1. Melt the butter in a large sauce potor Dutch oven on the stovetop.
  2. Then add in the vanilla extract, salt, and mini marshmallows.
  3. Continue stirring until the marshmallows have fully melted, and then add green food coloringuntil you have the shade of green you want (I usually add 8-12 drops).
  4. Remove the mixture from the heat, and quickly stir in the Rice Krispies.
  5. Then you just spread the Rice Krispie treats into a greased baking dishand let them cool.

Note: You can use homemade sugar cookie icing in place of the decorating icing. Just keep in mind you’ll also need black food coloring

CAN YOU FREEZE RICE KRISPIE TREATS?

You can if you need to. And then get them out with at least half an hour to thaw before serving.

Be sure when freezing them, though, that you again store them in an airtight container or freezer bag. And you might even put wax paper or parchment paper between the layers of treats so they don’t stick together.

What’s the best way to store rice krispie treats so they don’t get stale?

It’s best to eat these treats within 2 days. However, I’ve found they can sometimes keep for up 3 to 4 days if stored in an airtight container at room temperature. Make sure the lid is on securely to lock in freshness

Can rice krispies be frozen?

According to the Kellogg’s Rice Krispies page, they can be! “To freeze, place in layers separated by wax paper in airtight container. Freeze for up to 6 weeks. Let stand at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

The trick is to mix the ingredients together quickly, before the marshmallows and rice krispies start to harden.

HOW TO MAKE FRANKENSTEIN RICE KRISPIE TREATS

To make this simple Halloween Treat, first start by making the rice krispie treats.

In a large microwave safe bowl combine butter and marshmallows. Microwave on high for 2 minutes, remove from microwave and stir. Microwave an additional one minute if marshmallows are not melted and smooth.

Mix in green food coloring and vanilla when butter and marshmallows are smooth.

Add in the Krispies cereal and stir until the cereal is well coated. Pour into a greased 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking dish and with greased hands or the back of a spoon press into the pan.

  • Tips for working with Rice Krispie treats:
  • Spray whatever utensil you are using to mix the marshmallows and Rice Krispies with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • Also, working with greased hands helps the krispies from sticking to your hands.

WHAT KIND OF CHOCOLATE TO USE FOR DIPPING?

For this recipe, I used Milk Chocolate Chips. They were simply melted in the microwave and then used to decorate Frankenstein. You can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate melting chocolate. Use the flavor of chocolate you prefer. I personally like the flavor of the milk chocolate with this Halloween Treat.

NOTES

TIP: In place of the royal icing, decorating bag, and tip, you may purchase a black cookie icing with built-in tips.

DECORATING TOOLS AND TIPS FOR HALLOWEEN RICE KRISPIE TREATS

  • To make the candy eyes look bloodshot, use an edible marker to draw on them.
  • Packaged decorating icing is an inexpensive and easy way to decorate without making another frosting. It dries shiny and thick which is perfect for decoration. Black is also a hard color to achieve when making your own frosting, so why not let someone else do it?!
  • A wet finger can smooth out imperfections in the frosting.
  • I used different sprinkles I had on hand to make eyebrows and noses on some of the Frankensteins. I thought it was fun to make different faces and expressions.
  • To get a nice, packed rice cereal treat, spray your hands with non-stick spray and press firmly all over the pan. Be careful, the mixture is hot at first so wait for it to cool slightly.
  • These treats are best at room temperature, but I would suggest storing them in the fridge until you are ready to serve them. Allow them to sit at room temperature for about 10 minutes to allow them to soften before enjoying
